COVID-19 UPDATE 15 May 2020



Access procedure for all berth holders, dry stack customers and dinghy owners:

  1. By appointment

  2. Access to the marina is by appointment – prior email booking.
  3. Email in advance providing the Date and time of arrival, number and names of any person visiting (together) with your car registration. Only household members should be accessing boats together in line with Government guidelines.
  4. Each person in your party will need to complete a COVID-19 Self Declaration form which needs to be brought with you.
  5. Preferably all bookings need to be made 24 hours in advance, we will do all we can to accommodate you as quickly as we can.

(This will allow us time to update the system and activate your fobs for access on to the pontoons for the day of your appointment.)

  1. Site/pontoon Access

This will be by FOB only – no codes will be given.

All your existing fobs will be programmed to allow appropriate access based on you ‘visiting time’ appointment.

Replacement fobs can be pre-ordered and will be waiting for your arrival.

  1. Boat keys

Boat owners should use and retain their own boat keys to minimize handling by marina staff.

If you do not currently have your keys, please let us know in the email and we will arrange for you to pick up your keys and sign the key log accordingly at entry.

If you have on-going works and need contractors to access your boat, we will be happy to retain and issue keys for you.

Please make sure that we know who you allow on your vessel.

  1. Following Government Guidelines at the marina

Please always wear appropriate personal protective equipment when moving around the marina and strictly observe the Government’s social distancing and hand hygiene guidelines.

When on the pontoons please wait on a finger when someone is passing so that you minimise crossing one another. Please use gloves when using trollies, touching taps, power points, gates and ramps etc.

Be considerate in how you clean your vessel.

In an emergency please remember our staff can’t come within 2m unless you have signed a disclaimer.

  1. Toilet and shower facilities

The Toilet and shower facilities locks are deactivated, if you wish to use them please ask on your email and provide your own PPE (mask gloves and hand sanitiser).

We make every effort to keep them clean but can’t clean after every use and they are not big enough to take more than one person at a time safely.

  1. Lifting and Ashore

We are now offering our normal lifting and storage ashore services.

Remember to strictly observe all Government Guidelines on social distancing when interacting with our lifting staff and other customers.

  1. Other marina services and facilities

Mark Mathews at Aspire Chandlery – although not opening the door to the shop he will deliver anything you want from his shop to your boat.

Please note that currently there are no catering outlets open other than take-away ice cream who are running alongside government guidelines.  We hope to have the small café up and running for basic coffee and takeaway’s soon.


Dry Stack customers

Bookings will resume when the River Hamble Harbour Master re-opens of the river for full leisure use. Until that time, boats will only be moved for essential work purposes. This can be booked online in the usual way. Once the River use is permitted the following procedures will apply:

  1. There will be a limit on the number and timing of bookings. This will be programmed into the Boat Cloud application so that you can make your bookings as normal but may find slot availability limited.
  2. Please complete the booking by indicating not only time of booking but time of return too. Use the Note facility to give us your requirements, including Return time.
  3. Please be aware when booking your slot that your boat MUST be removed from the marina as soon as it is launched. For this reason, you MUST be at the marina at least 20 minutes before your time of launch.
  4. Remember to strictly observe all Government Guidelines on social distancing when interacting with our lifting staff and other customers on the pontoons, on their boats and on the water.

We are extending our lifting times from 8am – 8pm on Friday and Saturdays.

Checking of boats

For those of you that are unable to visit your boat and are concerned, our Universal Marina Ambassador, Shelley Jory-Leigh is still offering free live video link service on your boat. Please email Cristina@universalmarina.co.uk with your request.

We hope you understand that we are doing all we can to facilitate a return to what will be a new normal for us all. We are carefully monitoring all the Government updates to ensure we are taking the best action at the right time. Our priority continues to be the health and safety of all our customers and staff at Universal Marina.

COVID-19 Universal Marina Statement

In all the uncertainty we would like to assure you that Universal Marina is open for business, and we are taking every step to maintain that.

If you were wondering if it’s safe to come into Universal Marina, we have initiated a pre-emptive business continuity plan to safeguard our staff and our services.

As part of this plan, we have made some changes to the way in which we operate. Some of these changes have already taken effect which you may have noticed and we have additional measures to adopt in order to remain in step with HMG guidance and the safety of the staff which will come into play over the next couple of weeks.

Like you, we are monitoring the situation day by day and attempting to operate as usual.

Our measures

Due to Corona Virus & the risk of cross contamination, we are no longer accepting cash payments. Card payments only, until further notice.  If you can pay over the phone or by bacs, please do so.

Please remain vigilant and maintain physical separation of 2 meters when you are interacting with the office team and lifting staff.

We are trying to provide a normal service and we have instigated a rota of deep cleaning in toilets showers and offices. So, for the time being everything is open as normal.  However, there may come a time when we are unable to guarantee this service and we may have to reduce access to the facilities.

As part of our contingency plan, and increasing the protection of our staff, we will continue to lift and launch boats. We will be under more pressure due to our customers changing situations and therefore, we will require you to think ahead and tell us when you want your boat launched. In order to meet your expectations, we will need 5 days’ notice of any changes to booked boat movements, so if we go to reduced manning, we are still able to service demand.

Finally, although we will maintain our normal level of safety and security there will be unscrupulous people who might want to take advantage of the current environment.  Therefore, where possible it would be sensible to consider any additional security measures that you could add to your boat.  Foremost, please let us know of your movements re use of your vessels and if you are expecting or authorising any contractor or other person to access your vessel let us know.

So far there has been no Government Direct or instruction from the Harbour Authority re the use of pleasure crafts. At this time, you can still go blow the cobwebs off round the Solent. But we will update you if this changes.

In Summary

We are open. The marina is safe. We will provide our usual service, but we might need more notice. Consider additional security measures.

Please be assured your vessel is in safe hands. We will try and keep you up to date via our Facebook page Internet and E-Mail with any changes.

Final Note

If you are concerned or are showing symptoms and have been visiting the marina, please inform us should you receive a positive diagnosis of Corona Virus.

New Year Good Wishes

With the turkey almost a memory and the tinsel looking a little faded it’s time to look forward to the New Year.

We would like to wish everyone happy and safe New Year celebrations and here’s to a wonderful 2020, with good weather and the wind always blowing from the right direction…

Our opening hours are still a little Festive so from now until Thursday 2 January reception is open from 9am – 1pm. From 2 January we are right back to our normal hours and reception will be open from 0730 to 2400.

Dry Stack boat movements

Our hard-working lifting team will be taking well-earned breaks over the Christmas period. A skeleton staff will be available for security, lifting and emergencies.

If you require your boat to be launched over the holiday period could you please give at least 24 hours’ notice by telephone. Please note boats will only be lifted from 9am – 1pm.

Boats in the water over the Christmas period will be recovered upon our return to normal working hours, Thursday 2nd January, 2020.
