After our first year at Universal, we had no hesitation in renewing our mooring. The marina team is so helpful and it is very comforting to see them regularly checking out the pontoons and vessels moored. The moorings are kept in top condition, clean and tidy and there is always ample parking, even during Cowes Week.

My wife and I are in our second year as berth holders and we are very happy with every aspect of Universal Marina. Not only is it set in a wonderful rural location on the River Hamble, it is also situated in what is, in my opinion, the nicest stretch of the river.

What is also particularly nice is that the layout of the marina is such that even a boat on an innermost berth only has about 8 other boats between it and the river. Consequently, it is almost like having a mooring out on the river but without the inconvenience that entails. This is something that my wife and I enjoy very much.

The staff are always cheerful, very friendly, and helpful. All of this gives the place a very positive and welcoming atmosphere. They are also very good at keeping an eye on the boats, every boat is checked daily. In foul weather I have seen the guys donning lifejackets to walk the pontoons and check every boat, sometimes twice a day if conditions dictate. What is more the boats do not just get a cursory glance, each boat is individually checked fore and aft. Add to all of the above, excellent toilet and shower facilities, the Café Lulworth, a free WiFi connection and the presence of HYS to help with marine work if required, what more could you want?

As this is my first experience in a marina I can’t make a comparison but what I can say is that we are extremely happy with the facilities. The staff are friendly and cooperative and actively look after our investment – which is very important. The facilities are always maintained to a high standard and having a decent restaurant on site is a big bonus when you are tired. Washrooms are welcoming and very clean and there is a good feeling of security in the marina. Car parking is excellent. We would certainly renew our annual berthing contract. Hope this helps,

Regards,

Des.

As a Solent berth holder for 25 years, there cannot be many marinas I don’t know! It was in the later part of 2008 my family & I were looking for a change of mooring to enable our boat to be nearer our home in Chichester. By a stroke of good fortune we found Universal Marina. Universal is the unknown jewel in the crown of Solent Marinas. At the top of the Hamble River on the East bank stand this perfect facility.

From the very first contact I made with the marina I have been totally overwhelmed by the professionalism & kindness of all those I have come into contact with. Whether that be Lauren in the marina office, Mike from the 8 Metre Shed or Mick from Hamble Yacht Services – nothing is too much trouble. Our North Seas 127, Melchior Of Beaulieu, has recently been out of the water. She was craned as delicately as one delivers a baby – with the owner watching every move! The attention she has received from Mike Barnes & his crew in the 8 Metre Shed has been quite outstanding.

All those working in the marina get to know the owners & boats. The facilities – both afloat & ashore – are without doubt the best in the Solent. The situation of Universal is beautiful, nestled in the wooded banks of the Hamble River. To be quite honest I would love no one to know about this marina! But that would be totally selfish. I have not one reservation in recommending this facility to anyone wanting to make the Hamble their Solent base.
