General
Please be careful while walking along the pontoons, taking extra care when the weather is bad, or it is dark. There are lights along the pontoons and walkway at night to guide you. If members of your party are unable to swim, or you have young children on the pontoons, we would encourage them to wear a life jacket at all times.
Swimming is forbidden within Universal Marina.
Pontoon Water
Be aware that the water supply will have been sitting still in the pipes for some time. Please ensure you run the water for a period before filling your tanks. We would also recommend you boil the water before drinking it.
MOB (Man overboard)
If you are unfortunate enough to fall in the water, please shout to draw attention to yourself, and if possible make your way to one of the safety exit ladders.
Ladders are located on each leg of the marina. We hope you will never have to use them, but would encourage you and your crew to be aware of their locations. (see plan)
If unable to make it to one of these ladders, try grabbing transom ladders, mooring lines or anything you feel could help you exit the water, or hold a safe position.
There are life rings located on each pontoon (see plan), so if you witness a MOB and can’t reach them by hand, please use the ring to assist in the rescue.
If the MOB is unable to be recovered quickly, please alert the marina office and they will come directly to help, VHF 80 or Tel. 01489 574 272. If out of office hours call the Harbour Master on VHF 68.
If you have to leave the MOB unattended to get help, please ensure they are securely attached to something solid before leaving them.
Pontoon Electricity
Each berth has access to a power point at the end of their dock (maximum of 16 amps). As many of you use these units on a regular basis, we would encourage you to check your cables for wear and tear. When disconnecting your cable, please do so from the dock end first so as to avoid a live end.
Fire
In the case of a fire, please call the fire brigade and then contact the Marina Office. Make sure people are a safe distance from the fire, guiding them upwind of the fire if possible.
Please only attempt to tackle the fire if it is safe to do so. There are fire extinguishers located along the pontoons if required.
